Hi! I'm Sarah Kolis, a custom couture wedding dress designer based in Michigan but serving the whole midwest. I love creating custom gowns and alterations for clients and I have a special love for vintage fashion. Thanks for stopping by!
Megan was the most beautiful bride!!! She married Sarah’s brother-in-law Ryan on October 29, 2022 in a custom couture Sarah Kolis original bridal gown!
Megan came to Sarah with a general idea in mind of this big satin skirt with lace long sleeved top. She was having trouble finding that exact high-end look she was searching for in store-bought gowns. So, naturally we had to meet up and talk about how to make her dream gown a reality.
Megan’s gown is made of a stunning silk duchess satin and beautiful corded lace with metallic threads, straight from London! Fun backstory: when Sarah was in England in 2018 learning tambour for her own bridal gown, she went fabric shopping and picked up this gorgeous lace amongst many others, not realizing that one day it would make a debut in one of the most stunning gowns for her sister-in-law! Megan was quite drawn to it when hunting through Sarah’s fabulous fabric stash and decided to give it a try! The lace itself could not look any more high-end with that beautiful cording and light metallic thread detail. The silk duchesse satin skirt was well worth the small fortune to purchase, it draped so beautifully and fluffing the skirt “practically brought tears to my eyes” (Sarah). Maybe a little overdramatic, but necessary in this case; it was something quite worth seeing off a couture Parisian runway. The magic doesn’t stop there with the elegant fabric materials, but also small details like taffeta-covered couture buttons down the length of the center back skirt and at the wrists. A bow adorned the beautifully wrapped figure with a sash and side bow design fit for a true model of a bride. Sarah stopped at nothing when designing this high-end look for beautiful bride Megan. It even has pockets!
The veil had an ivory corded trim on the edge to compliment the cording in the lace. It was a long, wide cathedral length veil that was light enough to have a billowy effect when fluffed.
Megan and Sarah had about 4 fittings together, starting with a mock dress, the first fabric cut, and little tweaks and finishing details toward the end. Megan’s gown was kept great secret for all until the big moment walking down the aisle on her wedding day! There was great anticipation and it was well worth the wait. One thing quite important to Megan was the danceability. Her and Ryan created a surprise choreographed routine for their first dance and we kept this in mind while designing the sleeves and skirt so she could have the movement necessary in that special moment, and boy was it fabulous!
Two months before the wedding date, a big photoshoot took place to create some awesome studio images of the gown before the wedding day. It was great fun for the whole team!
“As the designer, I had certain images and detail shots I knew I wanted of this incredible gown, so it was well worth the time and effort put into making an absolutely gorgeous photoshoot with some incredible vendors!” (Sarah)
